I can’t imagine what prompted this mom and dad to abandon their tiny child on a beach for hours, though “drug abuse is suspected” (obviously!).

A couple left their one-year-old daughter alone on a beach while they went on a naked jog, say authorities.

Johnson said the parents were arrested on charges of child desertion and obscenity, and the baby was turned over to her paternal grandmother, KATC reported. Minutes later, officers found a vehicle running nearby, KPLC reports.

Johnson told KATC, an ABC affiliate, that a relative took custody of the child after the incident.

Johnson said the child had likely been alone for two hours. I don’t know why she didn’t go to it (the water) except for God stopped her from doing it. That poor little girl out there, alone, mosquitos getting at her. I don’t understand.

“We didn’t locate the parents until 12:14 (p.m.)”, Johnson said.
