Amazon Web Services has entered the Internet of Things market with its own IoT platform - called Amazon IoT.
The new DevOps competency has launched with 27 partners who provide software services that deliver “DevOps principles” using the AWS platform. “Once the transfer is complete and the appliance is ready to be returned, the E Ink shipping label will automatically update and you can track the job status via Amazon Simple Notification Service, text messages, or directly in the Console”. Amazon had previously acquired startup 2lemetry.
The internet giant made “AWS IoT” public when the company’s Chief Technology Officer Werner Vogels announced the product while at Amazon’s re:Invent conference.
Firehose is created to elastically scale with the data that users put in, which means that companies don’t have to worry about provisioning more instances to keep up as they add devices. A number of semiconductor manufacturers now have starter kits available powered by AWS IoT, that embed the AWS IoT Device SDK and offer connectivity to AWS IoT “out of the box”.
“These customers have been asking AWS for an analytics solution that can enable every one of their users to gain insights and make rapid decisions using this data”. This allows it to be connected to one of the world’s biggest commercial cloud services. AWS IoT integrates with Lambda, Amazon Kinesis, Amazon S3, Amazon Machine Learning and Amazon DynamoDB. “Licenses for Windows Server, Windows SQL Server, Oracle Database, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server often include this requirement”, explained AWS evangelist Jeff Barr in a blog post. In addition, AWS announced the 2016 Premier Consulting Partners, a designation that recognizes 46 APN partners that provide superior customer service and expertise in building and migrating customer solutions on AWS.
Mobile Hub essentially helps developers take advantage of features, scalability of AWS.
“The team found that many AWS customers store backups or log files that are nearly never read”.
This shows Amazon, like Microsoft, IBM and others, attempting to build a high wall around a complete set of IoT-related services, to persuade companies to stick with a single provider from data collection to analytics and so maximize the revenue potential.
