Delta said Wednesday it is paring growth plans for the rest of this year and 2016 after being hit with a sudden dip in average passenger fares and overall revenue during the quarter ended September 30. Passenger-unit revenue declined 4.9%.

“We continue to benefit from the decline in fuel prices, which provided a $1 billion-plus tailwind this quarter and, at current prices, will drive a $750 million benefit in the December quarter”, said Chief Financial Officer Paul Jacobson in a prepared statement.

On valuation-measures, shares of Delta Air Lines, Inc. have a trailing-12 and forward P/E of 21.11 and 8.55, respectively.

But the airline increased the rate of paying first-class travelers by 8 points to 56%.

It also forecast that unit costs excluding fuel and other expenses would rise about 2 percent in the fourth quarter, compared to the prior year. The net money flow was calculated to be $(-5.77) million with the final up/down ratio coming in at 0.93. The 52-week high of the share price is $51.06 and the 52-week low is $30.12. Wolfe Research upgraded Delta Air Lines from a “peer perform” rating to an “outperform” rating and set a $62.00 price objective for the company in a report on Friday, June 19th.

Anderson said that Delta is seeing even lower offers: A 9- or 10-year-old 777 on the market for as little as $10 million. Consequently, shares of the company gained in early trading.

During the quarter, Delta returned $532 million to its shareholders through dividends ($107 million) and buybacks ($425 million).
