Character actor Alex Rocco has died, according to a post on his daughter’s Facebook page-and then reported by Variety. After he moved to Los Angeles, Rocco studied acting alongside Leonard Nimoy, who was a fellow Boston native, but told him he should lose the accent because it was too strong. Rocco’s delivery of the line, “Do you know who I am?” likely inspired every dad-bod tough guy’s utterance of the same phrase whilst scuffling over a parking space at the mall. “Until then I will find you, In the butterflies, The wind and the sea, The rain that hit today was your storm of passing, This I know as the rain stopped when you took your leave”.

Rocco was born Alessandro Federico Petricone in Cambridge, Mass., on February 29, 1936.

In 1990, he won an Emmy for his role as a Hollywood agent Al Floss in the comedy The Famous Teddy Z. And he played Charlie Polniaczek on the 1980s sitcom “The Facts of Life“.

Despite enjoying a varied career, Alex described his Godfather role as “without a doubt, my biggest ticket anywhere”. Between that movie and his role in “The Godfather“, he was typecast quickly in films including “The St Valentine’s Day Massacre“, “The Boston Strangler“, “Wild Riders” and “Blood Mania”.

Actor Alex Rocco has died at the age of 79. In total, he ha appeared in over 160 films.

Several celebrities have already paid tribute to Rocco on social media, and he’ll be remembered by many as one of the most colorful character actors in film history.

His last recurring role was in the Starz network drama “Magic City“, in which he played the father of Jeffrey Dean Morgan as a Miami resort owner.

He is survived by his wife, actress Shannon Wilcox; daughters Jennifer and Kelli, sons Lucien and Sean; four grandchildren and a sister.
