EW has learned exclusively that Karina Smirnoff, the 37-year-old Ukrainian-American who won the Mirror Ball Trophy in season 13 with soap opera star J.R. Martinez, will head back to the ballroom for its 21st season.

‘I was a little nervous about not dancing on the show at all last season. “I was doing it for the last 10 years”, Smirnoff told Entertainment Weekly, which broke the story.

During her season off from the ABC dance competition, Smirnoff promoted her book “We’re Just Not That Into You: Dating Disasters from the Trenches“, and was cast in the independent film “Tango Shalom“, which was scheduled to begin production in New York this month.

‘After a lot of thought and prayer, I’ve decided to focus my energies on some other exciting endeavors including adding author to my resume, ‘ she said. Smirnoff herself followed with a Facebook post that credited her fans’ “encouragement and support” for helping her to make the decision to take another go at the coveted mirror ball trophy. There will be at least one live results show (scheduled for September 22), but ABC has yet to announce whether or not the results show will air every Tuesday during season 21.

According to a report from The Courier Mail, the talented Johnson could miss out on next season’s DWTS due to a conflict in schedules. She became an instant favorite as she had chemistry with many of her celebrity partners, including Lopez, Billy Ray Cyrus, Aaron Carter and Sean Avery. Last May, one of the show’s most recognizable dancers, Derek Hough, expressed his uncertainty at returning.
