(HMIL) will launch its much anticipated compact SUV, the Creta, today in New Delhi. “We have had successful product launches in last couple of years but none has matched the reception that Creta has”. To be offered in a choice of three engine options, and two transmission options, the new Creta brochure has already been officially revealed.
Having scheduled to launch on July 21, 2015, the Creta looks like a cut down version of its elder sibling the Santa fe that will come in a total of four variants - Base, S, SX and SX (O) being the top of line variant.
To be offered in in 7 exterior colours of Sleek Silver, Pearl Beige, Star Dust, Polar White, Red Passion, Phantom Black and Mystic Blue, the Creta measures 4270mm in length, 1780mm in width, 1630mm in height and 2590mm wheelbase.
The 1.6-liter CRDi motor produces a power of 128 PS and 26.5 kgm and is available with a 6-speed manual transmission. However, the variants that will be offered now include a 1.6-litre dual VTVT petrol, a 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel and 1.6-litre CRDi diesel. This will be in the form of a 6 speed dual clutch gearbox. To be sure, Elite i20 premium hatchback got 10,000 bookings in the first 20 days of its launch and Creta seems to have bettered that.
Hyundai Creta will compete with the offerings, including Ford Ecosport, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Safari Storme, which are in a price range of Rs 6.75 lakh to Rs 15.99 lakh. Obviously, this depends on how they price the vehicle.
While its price point is bound to sway its fate in this market, it’s going to be the driving capabilities and performance of the Creta that’ll add to its draw.
