These vans will drive through Delhi and NCR region to make people aware about “Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikash Yojana”, “National Skill Development Mission” and “Skill Loan” initiative etc.
United Nations (UN) on July 15, 2026 observed first ever World Youth Skills Day (WYSD) globally. “It will also be a vehicle to achieve the objectives of the National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship 2015, which will provide policy direction and guidance to all stakeholders in the skill development and entrepreneurship ecosystem”.
The mission will have a three-tiered, high powered decision making structure, with its governing council being chaired by the Prime Minister. Speaking on the occasion, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu emphasised on the importance of skill development.
Prime Minister’s ambitious Skill India mission will be a mass campaign involving the youth to encourage them to take up Skilling and vocational training to improve their employability.
The Minister pointed out that Railway Ministry is happy to contribute in this national endeavour of skill development and this will be done through Skill Training Centres at sparable Railway infrastructure like way side stations, Railway Training Centres, Railway Schools, Institutes etc. spread across the country. PMKVY will skill 24 lakh youth, across India, over the next one year. Skill India initiated by UPA Govt, now NDA & Modi claiming Credit!
The event would bring together key stakeholders including central ministries and departments, state governments, leading industry bodies and trainees.
“While a number of chief ministers will be in New Delhi, each of the states too will launch the Mission to create awareness amongst youth about the need for skilling”, said the official.
As indicated by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy, such large scale skill development programme has never been undertaken in history of independent India.
Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), the Ministry’s flagship, demand-driven, reward-based skill training scheme will incentivise skill training, by providing financial rewards to candidates who successfully complete approved skill training programmes.
