[Trailer] Play as Jason Voorhees in the Official ‘Friday the 13th’ Game!

Last fall, a new slasher horror experience from Gun Media known as Summer Camp was announced, pitting seven players against a lone psychopath who hunts the counselors down as a homage to old 80s horror. Five months after the announcement of Summer Camp, Friday the 13th creator and director Sean S. Cunningham reached out to the team with his blessing - and, after a few meetings, the license to the Jason Voorhees franchise. And, to ensure the title is as true to the spirit of the films as possible, Gun Media’s tapped Kane Hodder-who played Jason Voorhees-to consult on the project.

So what is the game about? Bar his recent appearance as a downloadable character in Mortal Kombat X, his only other claim to fame is starring in 1985’s Friday The 13th for Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, and the Speccy. With Cunningham and the Friday license officially on board, the goal now is to make the whole thing bigger. Aside from being one of the worst games ever made, hardware limitations at the time made it impossible for the developer to achieve what they were no doubt aiming for. (If you think Sega CD’s Night Trap caused a stink, just wait until Twitter gets ahold of this.) The Kickstarter will run until (of course) Friday, November 13th.

For $25 early birds can reserve a Friday the 13th download code for PS4, Xbox One or PC upon its estimated October 2016 release. Counselors can wield weapons too, but going toe to toe with Jason is never a wise move, no matter what you are armed with.

DC: When this game was announced as Summer Camp, it was touted as an asymmetric multiplayer game, which is where players occupy the same game but one (or some) have a very different role than others.

With no gameplay being shown, it’s hard to imagine just how exactly each game will play out.

While Slasher had the right idea and assembled the familiar players, Cunningham’s Friday the 13th had the name - arguably the most important piece from a marketing perspective - and not much else. “In fact, the slasher genre is more about creative kills and practical effects than all-out gore”. Gun Media is seeking $700,000 to fund the game, and as of this writing, they’ve already received pledges totaling $111,000. We’re interested in building precisely what we, as fans, want.
