That’s the official statement, but a quick and negative response from Facebook users may have been the catalyst to kill off this feature.
This week, Facebook users began sharing screenshots of their posts, showing a “Views” count beside the likes and comments.
A bug that infected Facebook’s mobile website let users see view counts for their own and others’ posts throughout the social network, The Verge reported.
The “Views” count, usually restricted to Facebook’s internal use, has popped up in a similar fashion to the play counts that accompany videos posted to the site.
The bug appeared to affect a few users when viewing their posts in Facebook’s mobile apps. The bug is now present on Facebook’s mobile site and not in the official app. And according to Mashable, Facebook is already working to fix the problem. However, the bug had a few anxious that a view count could become a new feature for users, many calling it “creepy”. Over a month, users on average will only reach almost only two out of every three friends.
That’s because this new feature, which revealed how popular or unpopular you are, was a bug, according to Facebook.
This is the issue that is challenging page owners such as media organizations and businesses on Facebook, as while investments have been going in to increase the number of likes for pages, the page could only be reaching a fraction of the intended audience.
