Members of the Kentucky State Police are in mourning after a long-time sergeant is killed in a crash in Larue County. The statement said Gibbs’ vehicle traveled into the oncoming lane, where it was hit by a Jeep driven by 63-year-old Patrick Judd of Louisville. Judd received non-life threatening injuries.
“Trooper Gibbs was very amusing, very organized, always represented Kentucky State Police in the uniform well”, Wilson said.
That family, in a heartbreaking scene, would later escort Gibbs’ body to the medical examiner’s office.
42-year-old Sergeant David Gibbs, of Campbellsville, died on Friday after an accident on a slick roadway. “You just have to stop and pause for a minute”.
When she heard a trooper had been killed, she immediately thought the worst.
Gibbs had been with the state police since 1998, with almost his entire career at Post 15 in Columbia.
This was the fourth weather-related accident on this section of road in the past two days, KSP said. It’s very emotional. We love one another. “We take as much time as needed to be on scene to do the thorough investigation and use the most up to date equipment that we possibly can to do so”.
“When you get the call that one of your own has been hurt or killed, you just stop”, Wilson said. They also added that his death would be a great loss, not only to the force, but to the community.
Funeral arrangements for Gibbs are pending.
