- An alligator attacked a woman swimming in a river Saturday near Orlando, biting off her arm below the shoulder, witnesses said. The incident happened at about 3:30 p.m.

“She was just swimming”.

He and his friends already had seen a few alligators mostly resting near the river’s banks, he said.

According to the Sentinel, the woman was swimming with a group near Wekiva Island, which rents canoes and cabanas and serves drinks from an outdoor bar, north of Orlando.

“Everybody was saying there were gators in the water”, said Deborah Morris. She was in shock and missing most of one arm. “Like completely gone. Elbow down gone”.

The woman, who was conscious after the attack, said she was dragged under several times and felt her arm break.

Soon after, officials say she felt something grab her arm and pull her under the water. Fortunately, a couple on a green kayak saw the woman and jumped into action to help.

Though initial reports were that the victim was a woman, the FWC said they have received conflicting information on the gender and other details.

The victim is at the hospital. Her condition is now unknown.
