Several passengers became stranded on the Orlando Eye after it suddenly stopped Friday afternoon, officials said.

“All guests are safely evacuated”, she told AP after a three-hour effort.

She says no one was hurt and there was no immediate indication what caused the observation wheel to stop.

Special operations climbers are on standby if needed for an elevated rescue, as said by OCFR.

The statement said Eye representatives kept up two-way visual and audio communication with the riders “to ensure their safety and comfort” and their priority was to ensure they safely disembarked.

The Orlando Sentinel ( http://bit.ly/1f9nChM ) reported that people were tweeting from the ride that the power had been going on and off. Firefighters had to use ladders to help people escape through hatches in the top.

Although the gondolas eventually started moving again and slowly reached the ground, they still wouldn’t open automatically.
