Apple says it will not interrupt subscriptions but will let customers know of the price increase. Apple is raising the price of apps on the App Store in Australia, Indonesia and Sweden within the next three days. “When the changes come into effect, customers will have to pay 1.49 AUD for the same app”, it wrote.
As Apple doesn’t change pricing in direct response to every move in exchange rates they need to take a financial position that covers them in the event of potential future falls. The news comes from an iClarified report based on documentation Apple sent to app developers.
Any Aussie Internet user is more than familiar with the “Australia tax” - the slightly higher price companies often ping Australians with when purchasing anything from electronics and software to television and games.
Apple also said it won’t cancel auto-renewing subscriptions as a result of the price increase. We’ll automatically update the prices for existing apps and In-App Purchases that already use the Alternate Tier A and Alternate Tier B price tiers.
The changes affect App Store prices and In-App Purchases, including automatic subscriptions.
They are called “Alternate Tier A” and “Alternate Tier B” and will only be added to the Australian store. Developers will have the option to sell their apps for as low as AU $0.99.
