Precision Castparts, based in Portland Oregon, serves companies such as General Electric Co and Boeing Co, and made seventy percent of its sales last year to the aerospace industry.

“In the past, Buffett has used this tool when he is buying a lot of shares in a company over a period of time and wants to prevent copycat buying from driving up the price”, the network noted.

Warren Buffett is making the biggest bet of his long investment career, a $32.36 billion buyout of Precision Castparts in a deal that will continue to reshape his Berkshire Hathaway conglomerate.

“I think he’s setting things up for the future and he doesn’t want anything terribly risky”, said Andy Kilpatrick, the investor who wrote “Of Permanent Value: The Story of Warren Buffett“. As of June 30, the company had $66.6 billion in cash on hand. Investment castings are manufactured by the Investment Cast Products segment and provides related investment casting alloys and materials, for armaments, IGT engines, airframes, aircraft engines and other industrial uses.

Lawrence Cunningham, a professor at the Law School of George Washington University and a shareholder at Berkshire said that nothing was going to change. It also owns BNSF railroad, several major utilities, clothing, furniture, brick, carpet, jewelry and pilot training firms.

Berkshire kept some details about its holdings confidential.

This week, Berkshire Hathaway’s plans have helped the stocks of Precision Castparts to move up nearly nineteen percent. The business earned $2.41 billion during the quarter, compared to analysts’ expectations of $2.51 billion.

It swapped most of what was once a much larger Phillips 66 stake for a chemicals business in February 2014.

KBW analyst Meyer Shields said Precision Castparts Corp. may be a cyclical business, but Berkshire already owns a number of those and doesn’t mind uneven profits in the short term.

The proposed acquisition, which remains subject to approval by Precision Castparts’ stockholders, also is the latest multibillion-dollar deal in a series of giant mergers involving U.S. companies this year.

“From the Berkshire perspective, they’re getting a good company on sale”, Shields said.

Shares of Precision Castparts surged 19 percent, or $37, to $230.88 in early trading.

Precision Castparts Corp. (NYSE:PCP) last announced its earnings results on Tuesday, July 28th.
