Magic Leap - the augmented reality company that received $542 million from a group of investors led by Google previous year - has revealed another video (below) showing off a few of the wonderful technology that money helped fund. We don’t know when it is going to launch.

Magic Leap’s CEO Rony Abovitz and head of content Rio Caraeff gave a few more details at the WSJD conference about what the company’s system will entail, Engadget reported.”It’ll be self-contained, a complete computer”, Abovitz said, suggesting that it won’t be as awkward to wear in public as something like Google Glass proved to be.

Whatever it is, Magic Leap has boasted that this “game changing” technology will “forever change the way we interact with images and information”. With these big names all keeping a tight-lipped on the project besides stating Magic Leap would bring out augmented reality in an awesome new way, consumers were easily interested in seeing this project finally get unveiled.

While virtual reality immerses the viewer in a digital world, augmented reality (AR) places a digital layer over the viewer’s actual surroundings. For example, imagine walking down the street and seeing arrows floating in mid air that direct your path, rather than having to glance down at Google Maps on your smartphone for guidance. “And it’s incredible how when you give the mind and body what they want, how much it gives back”.

However, it’s not clear exactly how Magic Leap will work. Magic Leap noted that this footage was shot directly without the help of added effects. “But we’re not far”.

In addition, Magic Leap has also taken over a portion of a former Motorola phone plant in South Florida. “We’re not in the research lab doing theoretical things,”Abovitz said at WSJD. No special effects or compositing were used in the creation of these videos” - implying that this is a near-final version of what you’d see if you were wearing a Magic Leap headset”.

“It’s part ‘Matrix, ‘ part ‘Harry Potter, ‘” Abovitz said, describing Magic Leap’s tech.
