The BlackBerry Venice could become the first BlackBerry device to come with Android pre-installed, instead of its own BlackBerry 10 operating system, which provides comparatively more security and productivity benefits.
With the recent update, the BlackBerry Prague is to be believed as the first Android smartphone by BlackBerry that will feature all touch similar to the Z3.
Fresh reports have now emerged claiming that BlackBerry would unveil its Android-powered slider smartphone named BlackBerry Venice in the fall of 2015.
Needless to say, none of this has been officially confirmed by the company, so take it with a pinch of salt. During the conference, the device was introduced to the surprised audience as the “BlackBerry 10 Slider”.
We also don’t know what version of Android the smartphone will be running, but if we are to guess it will probably be Lollipop and certainly not Android M, especially if the Prague will be launched on the market this year. BlackBerry says that the update is going to be available on all 10-series devices, though, including “BlackBerry Passport, Classic, and Leap, as well as the Z3, Z10 and Z30, and the Q5 and Q10, and the eligible Porsche Design devices…”.
Android is still the most popular operating system in low-end devices. Additionally, emerging markets will represent 79.5 percent of worldwide smartphone shipments, or 1.4 million in 2018. The smartphone will make its way with a sliding patent BlackBerry QWERTY keyboard. However, the company has not been successful. BlackBerry has its own operating system, but few use it these days. An Android smartphone such as Prague may help the company win back some of its market share.
